Pass Planning Calc Manager variable run time prompt values to an Essbase Partition

I had a requirement to pass planning calc manager variable run time prompt values to an Essbase Partition to refresh a partition for a specific scenario and version. We know we can run a MaxL file from a planning business rule using CDF. Can we extend this further and pass on run time prompt values to the MaxL file as well so they can be used in a partition definition? Say for example that we … Read More

Planning Bug Alert: Data form column resizing does not work in Planning v11.1.2.4.005.08 when the columns contain more than one dimension.

Data form column resizing (using any of the options available) does not work in Planning v11.1.2.4.005.08 where data forms have more than one dimension in the columns. The width resets to the default value even after the column widths have been updated. This affects the form when opened in Workspace and Smartview. Oracle has identified this as a known bug and expected to be fixed in v11.1.2.4.006 Please note: The column does resize to ‘fit … Read More

Using Planning Calc Manager Variables in Essbase Calculation script with SET RUNTIMESUBVARS command

On a recent project, I wanted to execute an Essbase Calc script with substitution variables set to accept values passed by Planning business rule run time prompts. In this specific case, I wanted a user to run a business rule in a planning application that would use the run time prompt values and pass on to a calculation script in a separate standalone Essbase database. I used a combination of CDF in business rule that … Read More

Import Smart Lists into Oracle PBCS or Planning using a csv file

Here is an easy way to import Smart Lists in to Oracle PBCS or on premise Planning using a csv file. This has been tested on Oracle PBCS and Planning versions 11.1.2.3.500 and later. The first step would be to export the existing Smart Lists. When we do this we get the file format that we can modify and re-import. If you do not have any smart lists yet in your application, you can create … Read More

Planning Member Formula Editor does not work after applying PSU 11.1.2.4.002

We applied Planning PSU 11.1.2.4.002 to fix a SmartView bug we had encountered during development. PSU 11.1.2.4.002 did not resolve the issue, however we also noticed that after applying PSU 11.2.2.4.002 the Planning Formula editor did not work. The page was stuck at the message ‘Loading Member Formula Editor..’ Planning was rolled back to PSU 11.1.2.4.001 so that the Planning member formula editor can be used.  We were using Internet Explore 9, however looks like … Read More

Access Control Report in Oracle EPM 11.1.2.4 Shared Services returns a 403 Forbidden error

I usually run access control reports for Planning application through Shared Services by right clicking the planning application and selecting ‘Access Control Report’. The access control report feature in Shared Services has been discontinued from EPM v 11.1.2.4. You will … Read More

Form Formula in Planning 11.1.2.4 displays as #No ACCESS in Smartview for a non-admin user

On a recent Planning 11.1.2.4 implementation we encountered an issue where a formula in a Planning form displayed #No Access in Smartview when accessed by non-admin users. When we logged in as an admin, the formula worked fine. The same formula displayed correctly when accessed through the Planning web. Planning Patch Set Update (PSU): 11.1.2.4.002 did not resolve this issue either. We raised an SR with Oracle and after a few development iterations; Oracle confirmed … Read More

How to fix Calc Manager Business Rule error: Business Rule execution time has exceeded the maximum configured wait time. Business Rule will now be executed in the background.

By default, Business rules wait until 3 minutes (180000 milliseconds) before moving the execution to the background. When the wait time threshold is reached the user gets the following warning/error message: Business Rule execution time has exceeded the maximum configured wait time. Business Rule will now be executed in the background. To check Business Rule execution status, open the Job Console Page. This is inconvenient especially when users do not get to know if a … Read More
