Oracle PBCS December 2016 release updates

Here is a quick update on Oracle PBCS December 2016 proposed updates. More details can be found on Oracle’s release control document

New REST API’s

  • You can now use REST APIs to get and set substitution variables.

Access logs that list user activity

You can now download a daily access log, a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file, which provides detailed information on the resources that users accessed, duration of user activity, the IP addresses from which users connected to the service, and the action that users performed in the service. The access log is generated each day.

To download an Access Log:

  1. Access the service.
  2. Click or tap Application, then Overview, and then Activity Reports. Available Activity Reports and Access Logs for the last 60 days are listed.
  3. Under Access Log, click Download to download the access log of a day.

Sandboxes will now be enabled by cube

  • This update is particularly handy. Currently, enabling sandboxes applied to the entire application. With this update, you can enable sandboxes by cube. Note that sandboxes are available only for BSO cubes, not for ASO cubes.
  • You can enable sandboxes for cubes after you create the application.
  • You can enable sandboxes for custom cubes when you create them.
  • You can migrate a sandbox-enabled Standard application to an Enterprise application (though sandboxes aren’t supported in the Enterprise business processes).

Predictive Planning for Web Integration

This provides web based predictive planning capabilities. Smart View users can still perform predictive analytics using the previously released Predictive Planning for Smart View.

To enable predictive planning i.e. to predict future values-

  1. Open a data form or grid and select ‘Predictive Planning’ from the Actions Menu.
  2. You should see a results area below the form with a chart that shows historical data, forecast and future predictions.

Financial Reporting Web Studio Updates

  • Related content functionality will now be available in Financial Reporting Web Studio.
  • You can now select to hide grid lines in the HTML preview.
  • The Simplified Interface of Planning now offers the ability to view form instructions along with the form. You do not have to close the form to access task instructions.
  • You can filter the types of objects displayed in the Financial Reporting Web Studio repository panel

Removal of Support Announcement –

  • Standard Interface – Starting with the December 2017 update, all service functionality will be available through the Simplified Interface only. This applies for Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service customers who activated their subscriptions on or before July 31, 2016 only
  • FR Studio Desktop Client – With the May 2017 update, Financial Reporting Studio desktop client will no longer be distributed.
